Individuals requiring immediate crisis services can receive them at any time through Scranton Counseling Center’s 24/7 emergency services.  During the center’s regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 am —4:30 pm, individuals can come to the center to meet with a crisis clinician and a psychiatrist face to face to determine an    appropriate level of care.   After hours, weekends, and holidays, crisis services are available by telephone by calling 570.348.6100. All telephone calls are screened by a crisis clinician.  Consumers can also go to one of the local emergency rooms in Lackawanna and Susquehanna counties at which SCC provides crisis services: Lackawanna County – Geisinger CMC, Commonwealth Health Regional Hospital and Lehigh Valley Dickson City; Susquehanna County – Endless Mountains Health Systems and Barnes-Kasson Hospital.

TRADITIONAL CRISIS SERVICES:

 Telephone Crisis — 24/7 Crisis line available to any individual in crisis. The call is screened by a crisis worker providing appropriate counseling, consultation, and referral to individuals who exhibit acute problems of disturbed thought, behavior, mood or social relationships. The telephone crisis worker can also dispatch a mobile team when deemed necessary.

Crisis Walk-In — Face to face crisis contacts that take place at Scranton Counseling center during the daytime hours Monday through Friday 8:30 am — 430 pm.  After-hours face to face crisis evaluations are considered mobile.

Crisis Mobile Individual — Face to face crisis contacts that take place at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Regional Hospital, Lehigh Valley Health Network Dickson City, Barnes Kasson Hospital, and Endless Mountain Hospital. Additionally, any crisis contacts in the community where only one crisis worker is present will be included in mobile individual. These include but are not limited to, schools, probation offices, aging office, children and youth services etc.

Crisis Mobile Team — Face to face crisis contacts when two crisis workers are involved as a team approach.  These contacts most often take place at a consumer’s home or in a safe place in the community.

CRISIS CO-RESPONDER TEAM (CCRT)

The Crisis Co-Responder Team is a collaboration between Behavioral Health and Law Enforcement to respond together to emergency calls for individuals experiencing a mental health crisis.

Mission Statement

The Crisis Co-Responder Team serves individuals of all ages and diversity in Lackawanna and Susquehanna Counties by providing a first response to emergency calls for timely crisis assessment and intervention to individuals experiencing a mental health crisis.

How does a CCRT help?

  • A behavioral health specialist and law enforcement officer combine expertise to de-escalate situations and help link individuals to appropriate services.
  • The CCRT response to emergency calls allows utilization of skills and expertise to increase the diversion of individuals from unnecessary incarceration or        hospitalization.
  • Provides alternative care in the least restrictive environment through a coordinated approach.
  • Provides a safe, compassionate, and effective response to individuals with behavioral health issues.
